Chapter 75 - Through Life And Death

nqiong also bid farewell.“Alright, I reckon that with these old bones of mine, I can still live another two days or so. Let Emperor and Empress rest easy.” Old Marquis waved his hand dismissively."Unc...Chapter 75 Life and Death

The Moonlit Pavilion was surrounded by five hundred covert guards, with one post every three steps. It could be said that the Moonlit Pavilion was defended as solidly as a golden cauldron; not even a fly had been able to enter during Yun Qianmo's absence.

Yun Qianmo returned to the Moonlit Pavilion and landed gracefully. The covert guards, who were hiding in the shadows, were about to take action but halted when they saw her. She glanced at the courtyard; everything was as it had been before she left, with everyone going about their business without any abnormalities. She pushed open the door and entered the room.

The Third Young Master was lying on a chaise longue, holding a book in his hand. When he saw Yun Qianmo return, his eyes suddenly widened.

"What's wrong Don't you recognize me" Yun Qianmo walked over with an amused smile and raised her eyebrows.

The Third Young Master seemed to breathe a sigh of relief. "I'm glad you're back! I didn't expect you to return so quickly; it was quite unexpected."

"I hadn’t even had time to send you a message before I got home." Yun Qianmo smiled and stood by the bed, looking at the Third Young Master. Even though he had been surprised by her sudden return, his body remained motionless, indicating that his injury wasn't healed yet. She reached out and took his hand, "Let me check your injuries!"

"Just a couple more days of recuperation and I'll be fine." The Third Young Master said this but did not stop Yun Qianmo.

Yun Qianmo pressed her fingers to his pulse; her eyebrows furrowed immediately, her expression becoming serious. "It’s so severe! How hard did the Emperor's people hit you" She narrowed her eyes carefully. "Did they send out a covert guard leader Did you fight with him Otherwise, your skills are not bad—how could anyone hurt you so badly"

"Yeah, it was him!" The Third Young Master nodded.

Yun Qianmo's face turned cold, her tone slightly ominous. "Rest assured, I’ll make them pay for this."

"Mm-hmm." The Third Young Master smiled and nodded, his eyes warm.

"Let me check your external injuries" Yun Qianmo released his hand and said.

The Third Young Master shook his head with a teasing smile. "Better not look; if that vinegar jar finds out, I won't just have these minor skin wounds."

Yun Qianmo gave a sharp laugh and told the Third Young Master, "I don’t consider you a man; why would he be jealous"

The Third Young Master's face turned dark. The warm smile in his eyes suddenly changed to a grinding tone: "All these injuries I’ve received are for your sake. How can you treat me like this"

Yun Qianmo covered her mouth and coughed lightly, the chill she felt dissipating when she learned that the old emperor had sent out his covert guard leader. She looked at him with a curve in her eyebrows and a deep smile. "Alright, I was joking. Let me see—although he’s like a vinegar jar, there is a limit to how jealous he can get; he won’t be envious because you got injured for me. The favor I owe him will make up for it."

The Third Young Master grunted slightly and his expression softened. He shook his head: "Uncle Yun examined my injuries when I returned. Rest assured, there’s nothing to worry about! Do you not trust Uncle Yun's medical skills"

"Alright then!" When she saw that he was insistent, Yun Qianmo did not press the matter further. In this era, men and women were not supposed to be intimate; even though she didn’t care much, she still needed to consider his feelings. Besides, since his father had already examined him, there shouldn't have been any serious damage. She nodded and sat on the side of the bed: "Since your father has seen you over, given that your injuries are still so severe after several days' rest, it seems like you almost lost half your life when you returned."

"Xian Ge's injuries were also very serious; however, the person who disguised himself as Prince Jing was a martial arts expert, and the covert guard leader of the imperial family was severely injured by him; he wasn't much better off than me. Fortunately, there were people from Prince Jing’s side, otherwise I and my Wind Pavilion may not have returned." The Third Young Master sighed.

"The Wind Pavilion has been dealing with the imperial family's covert guards for five years now. Now it finally reaped the bitter fruit of their actions," Yun Qianmo said, half-jokingly. "This is a self-inflicted disaster on my part. But if I had to go through everything again, I would still make the same choices."

The Third Young Master knew about her entanglements with Ye Tianyi and was at a loss for words as to how to console her; he remained silent.

"Now that I’m back, you just focus on recovering. You don't need to return to Prince Xiaoqin’s mansion either; stay next door to me." Yun Qianmo put away her self-deprecating thoughts. She and Ye Tianyi were already at odds with each other and there was no way she could change that fact now. All she could do was protect the people she wanted to protect, including Wind Pavilion which had suffered such heavy losses this time.

"Mm-hmm." The Third Young Master responded as he looked at Yun Qianmo’s expression; it seemed like he understood what she was thinking and tried to console her: "The imperial family's covert guards didn’t gain much from their efforts this time either. Although the Wind Pavilion suffered heavy losses, so did the imperial family’s covert guards—the overall loss wasn't too great."

"Mm-hmm." Yun Qianmo nodded in agreement. "After all, some of the imperial family's covert guards were assigned to protect Ye Tianyi and Ye Qingran, which reduced their combat effectiveness somewhat." She then suddenly smiled: "Nan Lingrui and Ye Tianyu, Ye Tianqing’s actions this time were also quite ruthless; it can be considered a heavy blow against them on our part. We’ve reclaimed some of what was due to us. There's still plenty of time—we don't need to rush. Let's take things slowly."

The Third Young Master smiled and nodded. "What you said is right!"

"Have there been any news from your mother in Xiyan these past few days" Yun Qianyue changed the subject and asked.

The expression on The Third Young Master's smiling face darkened slightly, and he shook his head. "No! It’s probably still the same old thing!" After saying this, he saw Yun Qianyue frown and said softly, "Over these years, I have not felt much for her. You needn’t worry."

Yun Qianyue nodded, reached out to pat his shoulder, and said, "Rest well so we can look for ways after you recover."

"Mm!" The Third Young Master replied.

A set of footsteps approached outside Xian Yue Pavilion. Yun Qianyue no longer spoke as she looked out the window, only to see Ling Lian and Yi Xue leading the Seventh Princess in. The Seventh Princess was wearing an elegant dress, her hair styled like that of a married woman. She had few decorations on her head and appropriate adornments on her hands. Compared with before, she now exuded more mature charm and elegance.

"Do I need to leave" The Third Young Master looked out the window and asked Yun Qianyue.

"No!" Yun Qianyue shook her head.

The Third Young Master remained silent.

A short while later, Ling Lian and Yi Xue arrived at the door with the Seventh Princess. Ling Lian said softly, "Miss, the Seventh Princess is here!"

Yun Qianyue sat on the bed without moving but answered from outside, "Let my sister-in-law come in!"

Ling Lian and Yi Xue stepped aside as the Seventh Princess entered. Through the pearl curtain, she immediately saw Yun Qianyue lying in bed and Yun Yue sitting by her side. She paused for a moment, looking at their identical faces with surprise flashing across her face; however, after a brief while, she calmed herself down and walked in, closing the door behind her.

Yun Qianyue then got up and went to meet the Seventh Princess. Reaching out to hold her hand, she smiled as she said, "Indeed married! It seems you’re getting along well with Brother—now you look even more graceful and dignified. I nearly didn’t recognize you."

The Seventh Princess blushed; her previous elegance instantly disappeared. She reached out to pinch Yun Qianyue’s waist, saying in a reproachful tone, "It seems it wasn’t you who got hurt! When I heard you were injured that day, Brother and I rushed here but were stopped outside the door. Later on, Father said there was no need for us to worry as all you needed was some rest. But I still couldn’t help worrying about you. Now that I see you’re fine, my mind is at ease."

"I didn’t get hurt; someone took my place!" Yun Qianyue felt warm inside and pulled the Seventh Princess toward a chair.

The Seventh Princess glanced at The Third Young Master who nodded to her. She smiled kindly with gratitude, not prying further but instead sitting down beside Yun Qianyue as instructed by her.

"Sister-in-law, I just returned today and heard something. Let’s cut the small talk; I believe you have also heard about it already and would like to hear your thoughts." Yun Qianyue no longer made any pleasantries but looked straight at the Seventh Princess.

The smile on the Seventh Princess's face slowly faded as she looked back at Yun Qianyue, saying softly, "Are you referring to Father and Mother Empress’s plans to marry Six Sister off"

"Yes!" Yun Qianyue nodded.

Pressing her lips together, the Seventh Princess’s face darkened. "Since I decided to marry into the Yun王府 (Yun Family Manor), I am no longer a princess of the imperial family. This identity has never made me feel lucky; over these years, if there is anything that can be called fortunate, then it would only be this identity allowing me to marry Yun Li. That’s my fortune!"

Yun Qianyue smiled warmly and said, "It’s also a fortune for Brother to have married you!"

The Seventh Princess’s eyes warmed up as she sweetly smiled but soon after, her smile faded as she looked at Yun Qianyue with determination in her gaze. “I will not agree to Six Sister marrying my husband! Regardless of what happens, I won’t consent. She herself abandoned her husband back then and has no right to change her mind now.”

"What you say is true No matter what circumstances arise, your decision won't change" Yun Qianyue smiled as she looked at her, somewhat surprised but also not entirely unexpected. The Seventh Princess was different from the delicate flowers of the imperial family; after all, she had pretended to be a nobody for ten years under the eyes of Empress Ming and Emperor Taizong during the incident where Wen Bo Houfu (Wen Bo Marquis Manor) was exterminated. That alone was enough to show her patience and resilience—something that most people wouldn’t have been able to do.

"It’s true! I’ve thought it over; no matter what happens, my decision won’t change." The Seventh Princess nodded decisively with tightly pressed lips showing her determination as well as resolute eyes. "Even if Father orders me to die, I still won't change my mind! Six Sister can marry anyone else but she is not allowed to marry my husband—I absolutely disagree even at the cost of my life."

Yun Qianyue smiled and nodded.

The Seventh Princess looked at her smiling face and suddenly changed her resolute expression, pursing her lips to試探地問道: "Are you... do you think I'm too domineering and have committed the crime of jealousy as outlined in the Seven Grounds for Divorce"

“What are the Seven Grounds” Yun Qianyue raised an eyebrow, shook her head, and said disdainfully with a smile: "That thing is worth nothing to me. I believe in being devoted, not fickle. It's about wishing to be like winged birds flying side by side in heaven and entwined branches on earth. A lifetime of two hearts as one person, rather than one teapot and several cups."

The Seventh Princess’s eyes brightened, “A lifetime of two hearts as one person”

“Yes, a lifetime of two hearts as one person,” Yun Qianyue nodded decisively. "One man and one woman spending their lives together. This love never changes, this heart never alters. In heaven and on earth, only that one person."

"I was foolish just now to think my words had frightened you. Actually, I should have known you are different from others. You could tell the Prince of Jing ‘one individual's weight outweighs all others in the world,’ so how would you think me too domineering for committing the crime of jealousy In this Heavenly Saint Dynasty and even throughout the world, you are that special person." The Seventh Princess smiled as if in admiration: "You don't know how much impact those words had. At first everyone thought the Prince of Jing was bewitched by you. But after you said that phrase, suddenly they didn’t talk like that anymore. Instead, they started saying that you and he look well matched."

Yun Qianyue smiled. Rong Jing also told her 'this life will only have this one person, I won't marry anyone else.' Whether others think them a good match or not doesn’t matter; what’s important is that they truly love each other and are together.

"Before, I always felt my fate was bitter. Born in the royal family with such a mother, I don't want to know why she did those things to harm the Marquis Wenbo's household, using me when she knew what I liked. But after ten years of waiting for him and hoping he would return only to be disappointed again, I understood there will always be someone out of reach like a flower in the mirror or moon in water. I won’t regret liking him; it was part of my growth. However, now I can say that I’ve forgotten about him and am grasping my own happiness."

Yun Qianyue nodded, knowing she meant Rong Feng.

"Yun Li is my happiness! I endured ten years to survive for this happiness. I won’t give it up. No one can."

The Seventh Princess’s eyes were even more resolute: "Unless he gives me up."

“You don't need to worry, Brother is a reasonable person and will not abandon you.” Yun Qianyue was moved as she held the Seventh Princess's hand. At this moment, she felt luckier than ever for accepting her back then.

"Mm!" The Seventh Princess’s face flushed slightly with shyness and sweetness: "On my wedding day he told me although he isn’t as talented as the Prince of Jing, he has a heart to cherish me and wishes to emulate him by only marrying me for his entire life. I believe in him."

Yun Qianyue blinked her eyes, remembering this must have been said on their wedding night. Originally she wanted to peek but was ruined by Rong Jing, so didn't get to see it; she hadn’t expected Yun Li to actually be romantic. She smiled: "That's good! When I heard about the Sixth Princess today, I was worried for you two. Now I don’t need to worry. As long as both of your hearts are firm and with me around, no one will bully you!"

"Mm! I believe in you." The Seventh Princess nodded with a smile.

“We're family now! When I promised to marry Brother, I accepted you as my family. You’ll be my sister-in-law from now on and your future path will be long; you must weather storms together. I'll do the same.” Yun Qianyue said seriously: "I know everything you said today comes from the heart. I hope every day in the future, for many days even to old age, that your resolve remains firm."

"I will!" The Seventh Princess’s eyes welled up and she nodded firmly.

Yun Qianyue smiled as she teased: "Don’t start crying with emotion or Brother will think I’m bullying you!"

The tear brimming at the corner of her eye was pushed back by this remark. The Seventh Princess looked at Yun Qianyue, unable to laugh or cry: “Your brother is always talking about his sister and wouldn’t suspect that you would bully me. You really are... I think only the Prince of Jing can control you.”

Yun Qianyue was speechless; she didn’t understand why everyone thought Rong Jing could dominate her.

"Alright! Even though you’re not injured and returned safely, I’m relieved. You must be tired from just returning so rest now. I’ll go back to the courtyard first. Later I'll have your brother come see you.” The Seventh Princess stood up with a smile.

“Okay!” Yun Qianyue also got up.

"No need to see me off, we're family!" The Seventh Princess stopped her and glanced at the Third Prince, who had lain silently throughout. He nodded at her; she acknowledged him with a nod and left.

Yun Qianyue didn't see her out but called out: "Ling Lian, Yixue, escort Sister-in-law back!"

Ling Lian and Yixue responded in unison, soon after the trio’s footsteps could be heard leaving Qing Yue Hall.

Yun Qianyue sat down again, leaning against her chair lazily. She truly was tired from traveling day and night without rest since coming out of the half-peninsula cliff.

"The Seventh Princess is indeed an honest girl," The Third Prince praised with a sigh: "But she just happened to be born into the royal family."

"No one can choose their origin. You, me, and even her. But the origin doesn't represent anything and cannot stop us from walking our chosen paths." Yun Qianyue looked at Third Young Master with a smile and said, "Now do you understand why I didn't want to avoid her"

"Yes, I get it!" Third Young Master nodded. The gloominess that had lingered between his eyebrows completely dissipated, and his tone became relaxed. "Yun Qianyue, although you seem like a careless person, your thoughts are actually more delicate than ordinary people's, and you have an extra eye compared to them, seeing things accurately. I did indeed care about my origin; the Prince of Filial Piety saw me as a shame, but little did he know that I viewed him even more so as a disgrace. There were times when I wished for a rebirth. Now that I've seen her and heard what she said, it was like an epiphany to me. Back then, I didn't understand why you initially stated that you wouldn’t accept any princess from the imperial family into Yun王府 (Yun Manor), but later agreed to do so with her. But now, I finally understand. She is indeed worthy."

"Yes!" Yun Qianyue smiled and nodded. "It's good that you can understand! Unfavorable things happen nine out of ten times in life. Everyone has their own share of difficulties, but we shouldn't stop progressing just because of such small inconveniences. That would be too unfair to ourselves."

Third Young Master nodded and suddenly smiled. "I truly learned a lot today!"

"Alright, don’t hog my bed anymore! I told you to move to the room next door." Yun Qianyue said with some weariness.

The Third Young Master grunted in agreement.

Yun Qianyue called out softly from outside. Two bodyguards entered and carried him gently out of the room. As he was about to leave, she suddenly added, "And also stop hogging my face!"

The Third Young Master seemed unable to hold it in any longer; he rolled his eyes helplessly. "Do you think I want this face Just thinking of that vinegar barrel makes me dare not look into the mirror!"

Yun Qianyue burst out laughing.

The two bodyguards carried Third Young Master to the adjacent room, closed the door, and Yun Qianyue was still lying on the table with a low chuckle.

Ling Lian and Yi Xue brought Seventh Princess back. They saw Yun Qianyue laughing so hard her nose disappeared from view. The two exchanged glances, then Ling Lian asked with a smile, "Miss, do you want to take a bath We will bring the water for you!"

"Yes!" Yun Qianyue stopped laughing and answered.

Ling Lian and Yi Xue went out and soon returned carrying buckets of water into the screen. Yun Qianyue let down the curtains, darkening the room, then entered behind the screen. Ling Lian and Yi Xue stepped outside from behind the screen, taking all the bedding with them to be changed for a fresh set which they brought back shortly after to arrange on the bed before leaving.

Yun Qianyue submerged herself in the water, letting the warm flow envelop her as she closed her eyes.

Not long afterward, footsteps were heard at the entrance of Shanyue Hall. The steps were very familiar, causing Yun Qianyue to slightly frown upon hearing them abruptly.

"Please halt, Young Prince Rong!" a voice from the bodyguard named Mu Mu echoed outside Shanyue Hall.

"I have entered this Shanyue Hall countless times. Why is there a guard post now" The footsteps paused, followed by Ye Qingran's voice.

"The mistress is recuperating and doesn’t want to see anyone!" the bodyguard responded with Mu Mu’s tone.

"Little girl, that doesn't include me! Move aside!" Ye Qingran waved his hand to push away the guard.

"Young Prince Rong, the mistress says no one can enter!" The guard remained in front of Ye Qingran without any expression on his face.

Ye Qingran was about to act but when he moved slightly, his facial muscles twitched as if triggering his wound. He simply bypassed the guard and shouted angrily inside, "Little girl, I’m here! Are you going to see me"

Ling Lian and Yi Xue emerged from a neighboring room after changing clothes, glanced at the doorway, then walked over to Yun Qianyue’s door and reported, "Miss, it's Young Prince Rong."

Yun Qianyue clearly heard this. Thinking Ye Qingran probably came straight here upon returning, she called out to them: "Tell him he can come in but wait outside for a bit. Inform him that I'm bathing!"

"Yes!" Ling Lian and Yi Xue headed toward Shanyue Hall's entrance.

The guard saw the two approaching, glanced at Ye Qingran, then stepped back.

"Prince Ren, my mistress invites you in, but please wait a moment as she is bathing!" Ling Lian said.

Night Qingran seemed to be taken aback for a second and then proceeded inwardly. He waved his hand rather carelessly, "Then I'll wait until she finishes."

Ling Lian and Yi Xue nodded but did not say anything more.

Indeed, Night Qingran stopped under the osmanthus tree in the courtyard, slumping lazily onto a couch beneath it and closing his eyes. He seemed to be very tired; shortly after, even breathing could be heard from him.

Ling Lian and Yi Xue glanced at each other before returning to their rooms.

Cloud Qianyue had been listening to the sounds in the courtyard, sensing that Night Qingran hadn’t entered. She no longer paid any heed. After washing for a while more, she got out of the wooden tub and used her inner strength to dry herself off before putting on clothes. Stepping past the screen behind which she was bathed, she walked up to the window and pulled back the curtains, only to see Night Qingran lying asleep in an armchair under the osmanthus tree. The skin around his eyes had a faint bluish hue while he looked pale as though there wasn’t enough blood in his body, clearly indicating that he was heavily injured. She stared at him for a moment before stepping out of her room.

When she arrived under the osmanthus tree, Night Qingran seemed to have heard some noise and opened his eyes, staring straight at Cloud Qianyue.

"Huh, don’t recognize me" Cloud Qianyue said with a smile as she glanced at him sideways.

No words came from Night Qingran; he merely stared at her face.

Cloud Qianyue reached up to touch her face. "Did flowers bloom on my cheeks"

"Little girl, you weren’t injured" Night Qingran gazed at her for a moment before uttering this phrase.

"What do you think" Cloud Qianyue didn’t answer directly.

"Your complexion is rosy, it looks like you aren't injured." Still looking at her face and then at the spot between her eyebrows, as if he was studying her carefully and not missing any detail, Night Qingran said.

Cloud Qianyue thought that it must be because of Night Qingran; even now, he still suspected that she was the one who went to the top ten noble families Despite her changing her appearance with an illusion technique so perfectly that no one could tell any hint of disguise, and despite her changing both her aura and voice, he was still suspicious. She leaned lazily onto a chair and said with a laugh: "I haven’t left Qianyue Pavilion for six or seven days, eating well and drinking well every day, how can I not have rosy cheeks Even if it’s just a dried shrimp, it can be nurtured to look rosy."

"That is true!" Night Qingran looked at Cloud Qianyue with her slothful posture and said in disgust as he turned his head away: "How could I possibly feel that you resemble someone Now like this, there really isn’t any resemblance at all"

“Hm Who am I supposed to look like” Cloud Qianyue asked with a laugh. “Is this why you stared at me so intently”

"Yes! Only this little girl doesn't blush when she’s being stared at by a man." Night Qingran smiled. "Lady Red Pavilion, the wife of the head of the Chu Family from among the top ten noble families. Do you know her" “Lady Red Pavilion…” Cloud Qianyue curled up the corners of her lips and said to Night Qingran with a half-smile: “What if I say that I knew Lady Red Pavilion’s old master”

Night Qingran was taken aback.

"Don’t believe me" Cloud Qianyue raised an eyebrow.

He looked at her again for a moment and then turned his gaze away, grunting: "It’s not strange if you know the old master of Red Pavilion; whatever happens to or who you meet on your person is all reasonable."

"You really think highly of me!" Cloud Qianyue laughed. Changing topics, she looked at Night Qingran and said, “Severe injuries This is the first time I’ve seen you injured. You’re actually so weak”

“Little girl, are you looking for a beating My behind hasn’t even settled down after returning before coming to find you. Is this how you treat me” Night Qingran glared at Cloud Qianyue and said in an extremely hostile tone: “Don’t tell me I’m weak! Only a weak woman would be weak like that. This small prince is strong as steel, able to kill even one ox.”

“You’re just bragging!” Cloud Qianyue mocked him without any tact.

Night Qingran made a move as if he was going to hit Cloud Qianyue, but the movement triggered his wound and he winced.

"Ah, admit that you are injured when you are. It’s not like losing a piece of flesh will make any difference!" Cloud Qianyue stopped Night Qingran's hand and told him: "I think it’d be better if you went back to the mansion for some rest.

"I'm too lazy to move! I'll rest here for a while!" Ye Qingran really didn't want to put up a front anymore and waved his hand at Yun Qianyue. "Do whatever you need to do, don't bother with me! This place is pretty comfortable, I'll have a nap."

"Alright!" Yun Qianyue nodded her head and stood up.

Ye Qingran indeed closed his eyes and leaned sideways, lying down on the lounge chair. He fell asleep for real.

Yun Qianyue walked towards the room, when she reached the door, she turned around to take a look. She saw the wind blowing slightly, Ye Qingran's clothes and black hair swaying gently in the breeze; the cassia branches rustling with the sound of leaves. His sleeping face looked like that of a big child. She couldn't describe what her feelings were at this moment. In the end, was there something he wanted to protect She also wanted to preserve their relationship, but how difficult it was!

She retracted her gaze and stepped into the room, closing the door behind her softly. The earlier drowsiness had inexplicably vanished completely, leaving no trace of sleepiness. She walked over to the desk and spread out some xuan paper. She started grinding ink herself, soon after she began writing on the xuan paper.

One familiar name after another was written down by her hand. The handwriting wasn't as neat or delicate as ordinary women's; it was upright and robust.

She didn’t know how much time passed before the names filled up the entire sheet of xuan paper. She put down her brush, took the paper in her hands, and looked at it quietly.

Footsteps could be heard outside Qianyue Pavilion again, Yun Qianyue looked out to see Yun Li approaching the door, only to be stopped by a hidden guard. She told him from the inside: “Linglian, let my brother come in!”

"Yes, Miss!" Linglian answered and waved at the guards to move back.

Yun Li walked in slowly; when he saw Ye Qingran lying on the lounge chair under the cassia tree, it seemed that he was stunned for a moment. He stared carefully at Ye Qingran before walking towards the room.

Yun Qianyue put down the paper she held and looked at Yun Li coming in with a smile. She scanned his entire body from head to toe and didn’t see any major changes, but he was still more composed than before. It seemed that over this month or so since entering court affairs, he had honed himself to maturity. She smiled and beckoned for him: "It's early yet, Brother, why did you come home so soon Is there no business in the Ministry of Rites"

"Yes, I came back earlier!" Yun Li walked over smilingly, also scanning her entire body from head to toe. Then he looked out of the window at Ye Qingran sleeping on the lounge chair and lowered his voice knowingly: "When I heard that you got injured that day, I was scared stiff; Qingqiang and I rushed over here, but we were stopped by hidden guards outside. Later, my father came out to tell us that you would be fine after a few days of recuperation and not to come in to disturb you. After returning home, I thought the injured person should be someone else since even if it was you getting hurt, you’d let me inside."

"Yes, Brother is clever, someone stepped up for me," Yun Qianyue nodded smilingly. Qingqiang was a nickname of Princess Qiufeng; it seemed that he and the princess had grown to be quite close now.

Yun Li nodded his head and sat down in the chair opposite her, then lowered his voice further so only they could hear: "I guessed you went to the Lan Family. My sister is so smart, how can some people stop her"

Yun Qianyue smiled and nodded: "Brother is clever too!"

Yun Li’s face flushed slightly as he shook his head: “I’m not clever, I’ve just been in the Ministry of Rites for some time now. In the past, I wanted to enter officialdom too, so I paid attention to court affairs and have a better understanding of them.”

Yun Qianyue nodded; back then he had some intentions, she gave him a push and helped bring him to where he is today. She didn’t know if it was for the best or not.

Seeming to understand Yun Qianyue’s thoughts, Yun Li smiled at her: "Although court affairs are different from what I imagined; they’re dark with power struggles and deceitfulness, but I don’t regret my choices. There's no need for you to worry about me, Sister. I’m lucky to be your brother, marrying Princess Qiufeng."

Yun Qianyue smiled; he could guess what she was thinking just now, so it looked like he had grown up indeed. It seemed that his grandfather and father must have trained him well. She nodded with a smile: "I met my sister-in-law today upon returning home. I talked to her about Princess Liu’s matter. Now, tell me your thoughts."

Yun Li's expression darkened when he heard this; he said slowly but firmly: “Impossible! To grow old together, hold hands and walk through life. Princess Qiufeng is the only one I will marry, no others in mind now or ever!
