Li Yun felt the persistent gaze from behind her and thought that Miss Yu Ning was quite interesting. Then she thought that all these ancient people were rather amusing. She shook her head with a smile, clearing away her thoughts as she headed straight for the imperial palace.
"Qian Yue! Stop right there!" A loud shout suddenly came from ahead.
Li Yun was startled and saw two luxurious carriages approaching. The curtains of both carriages were simultaneously lifted up; a pale-clad woman peeped out of one carriage, while a green-dressed lady did the same in another. It turned out that it was the pale-clad woman sitting inside the first carriage who had shouted.
Li Yun frowned, thinking how this trip to the imperial palace seemed full of twists and turns. Nevertheless, she still pulled back on her reins.
"I tell you Qian Yue, don't get too smug. Do you think that with my brother and Prince Ran protecting you, everything will be fine The Crown Prince never likes a creature like you who isn't quite male or female. Don't dream about my brother and Prince Ran treating you well sincerely; they only helped you out of courtesy to the Old Marquis Yun and the Yun王府麵子上纔出手救你。你以為你是誰?”這粉衣女子正是榮王府二小姐容鈴蘭。
李芸不語,冷眼看著容鈴蘭,心想容景是她哥哥,那她就是彩蓮口中的榮王府二小姐了?
"I tell you Qian Yue, don't get too smug. Do you think that with my brother and Prince Ran protecting you, everything will be fine The Crown Prince never likes a creature like you who isn’t quite male or female. Don't dream about my brother and Prince Ran treating you well sincerely; they only helped you out of courtesy to the Old Marquis Yun and the Yun Manor. Who do you think you are" The pale-clad woman was precisely Rong王府 Second Miss, Rong Linglan.
Li Yun said nothing, looking coldly at Rong Linglan, thinking that since Rong Jing is her brother, she must be the Rong王府 Second Miss mentioned by Cai蓮.
"Why are you looking at me Did I say something wrong Don't you have a mirror to check your own worth Which man would sincerely save someone like you Do you think you deserve it If not for your good luck of being born into the Cloud王府, you would have died countless times already," Rong Linglan said again. Her tone was sharp and harsh.
Li Yun was furious in her heart but still waited politely until she finished speaking before asking coldly, "Are you done"
Rong Linglan's body trembled when she met Li Yun's icy gaze, yet she continued brazenly, "What if I am done What if I am not"
Li Yun was too tired to deal with the willful woman anymore. She didn't even give her another glance and whipped the reins, speeding past her.
"Damn it, Cloud Qianyue, stop!" Rong Linglan glared at Li Yun's retreating figure.
Li Yun ignored her and soon galloped far away. Fuming with anger, she let down the curtain and angrily instructed the coachman, "Drive faster! Go back to ask Grandpa why Brother has to save such a foolish woman."
The carriage driver from the Glory王府 didn't dare delay and sped up again.
In the carriage of Prince Xiaoqin's mansion behind, Leng Shuli also pulled down the curtain. Today, when she saw the Crown Prince’s resolute expression in dealing with Yun Qianyue, it seemed he was being sincere. Thinking about the long future ahead, she did not believe that Yun Qianyue would manage to sit on the throne as Crown Princess.
The remaining part of the journey finally went smoothly without incident; even when they encountered a series of carriages returning home one after another, the people inside merely lifted up their curtains for a glance and remained silent thereafter. Li Yun continued riding at full speed, and in no time arrived outside the palace gates.
She saw that this time around, all the splendidly decorated carriages had left from outside the palace gate, leaving only that earlier black carriage quietly parked there. The young dark-clothed guard standing before it still maintained a cold and indifferent expression as he stood motionless. It seemed his facial expression hadn’t changed once even during the short period she was away returning to Cloud Manor.
Li Yun couldn't help but marvel; could this man be made of wood
"Miss Why are you back again" Cai Lian had been waiting at the palace gate and when she saw Li Yun return after leaving, walked over in puzzlement to ask: "Didn't you go home with Young Lord Xiao"
"I did go home, but Grandpa saw that I came back alone without waiting for Viscount Jing, so he asked me to come pick someone up again." Li Yun looked at Cai Lian and asked: "Just now when I was too happy chasing Prince Xiao in a horse race, I forgot about you. Why didn't you go home by yourself"
"When the lady and Young Lord Xiao left, this servant saw them off out of fear that Viscount Jing might come out and not see Miss waiting around and get upset; hence I stayed to wait for Viscount Jing so we could return together." Cai Lian immediately replied.
What a meticulous girl! I can't understand how she managed to hear her noisy and angry words when she woke up earlier. It seems that this body hasn't suffered much before, so being suddenly bullied together by others might have angered her. If it's true like this, if the little girl treats her well, she could be a trusted person.
Li Yun nodded, "Thank you for your hard work!"
"Miss, please don't say such things. This is what the servant should do," Cai Lian was pleasantly surprised and shook her head repeatedly.
Thinking about it, Li Yun figured that the previous owner of this body must have been really bad to her maids; otherwise, she wouldn’t be so pleasantly surprised by a single word from someone. She looked towards the palace gate and asked, "Hasn't the Prince Jing left the palace yet"
"Reporting back to Miss, the Prince Jing hasn't left the palace yet!" Cai Lian immediately replied.
"Then we'll wait a little longer," Li Yun dismounted her horse.
Cai Lian immediately took over the reins and tied the horse at its original position. She then returned to stand beside Li Yun, stepping back half a step, standing straight with her hands crossed in front of her body, very規矩 (proper).
Lǐ Yún glanced at her and smiled, pondering how she could subtly extract the information about the internal affairs of the Cloud王府 (Yun Prince's Estate) that she desired. However, this was a delicate task. She couldn't pretend to have amnesia just to get her answers; although it would be safe if no one found out, it was also very risky and could easily backfire.
After contemplating for some time and not coming up with a good starting point, Lǐ Yún felt rather discouraged, thinking that any approach she took wouldn't be foolproof.
Just as Lǐ Yún was struggling with how to proceed, Cǎi Lián beside her spoke up in reminder: "Miss, look quickly at the palace gate..."
Hearing this, Lǐ Yún looked up puzzledly towards the palace gate and saw a figure walking out accompanied by Uncle Lù. Although it was just a glance, she was immediately captivated by the person who walked out gracefully.
The man wore a moonlight-colored brocade robe that was clean and dust-free. Aside from an exquisite white jade pendant hanging around his neck, there were no other decorations on him. He held a fine oiled paper umbrella which conveniently shielded his head from the scorching sun. His hand was fair-skinned and slender; although the oiled paper umbrella hid his face, he moved with elegance and grace, as if leisurely strolling through an idle courtyard. No rush, no hurry, he walked slowly like a gentle breeze and clouds flowing down from the heavens, making one wish to gaze upon him even though they couldn't see his features clearly.
The moment he appeared, all eyes of the palace guards, including Lǐ Yún's, were drawn to him.
Uncle Lù walked half a step behind him, chatting along the way with a pronounced smile on his face.
Lǐ Yún sighed inwardly. She never understood the meaning of the phrase, "strangers like jade, incomparable young masters," until now. Indeed, there were people in this world whose mere presence was impossible to ignore, even if she couldn't see their faces. She gathered her thoughts and looked clearly at that person, dismissing any extraneous thoughts. Now, without anyone telling her, she knew that the man must be Róng Jǐng.
Truly extraordinary, not disappointing!
Suddenly, as if sensing her gaze, he moved his umbrella slightly to one side and half of his face was revealed towards her.
Lǐ Yún's already settled heart fluttered again at the sight. She couldn't help but think how beautiful this man was; did he want women to simply give up living Although she believed she wasn’t someone who judged people by their looks, his appearance still shocked her deeply! Even when she met the Fourth Prince, the Crown Prince, and Yè Qīngrǎn, all of whom were strikingly handsome, none had left her feeling as if she wanted to bang her head against a wall like this. The Lady from the Chancellor’s Mansion, Yu Níng, who she’d seen earlier on the road, had only momentarily taken her breath away. But there was something about this man that seemed almost magical, drawing people into his depths and making them unable to escape.
His brows and eyes were truly like a painting!
Lǐ Yún thought of how Yè Qīngrǎn had warned her, and her eyes narrowed slightly. She immediately lowered her head and realized that what he said was right; it would be best if she didn’t get too close to this person. It's said that the more beautiful someone is, the more poisonous they are, like poppies. She didn't want to become ensnared.
